UKChatterbox IRC website personal data stolen

September 29, 2011

Popular UK IRC service UKChatterbox has commenced advising users to change their passwords following a databreach which culminated in compromised data being stolen. Users had been reporting outages which were originally put down to maintenance upgrades – however it has become clear that the reason wasn’t maintenance but a hack attack.

UKChatterbox has been the target of various attacks in attempt to disrupt its services.IRC forums are usually prime targets for hack attacks so it’s no surprise that they have been attacked. There appears to be a lot of sympathy on the Net for UKChatterbox given they are working in a risky security channel – IRC.Comments
