    I am currently A+ and N+ certified.

I have received several problems on my own PC.

1.) while I was surfing the Web, some hacker contacted me via popup & wanted me to connect something to my USB port – I immediately shut down the PC.

2.) my wireless router is currently a brick, I tried resetting but no use
a hacker somehow got into my wireless router and disabled the Internet connection.
I followed exactly what CompTIA texts said to do to secure my wireless router.

3.) I read Hakin9 magazine, Issue 4 and my video files became corrupted every time I download
I used DivFix++ to verify that they were corrupted

4.) I used ZoneAlarm Pro and somehow I got an svchost.exe worm on my PC.
I first tried contacting my ISP for help, but to no avail
I then contacted Microsoft, no help
I had to disconnect the ADSL modem & disconnect the Internet line from my PC & removed the NIC & was able to transfer all of my data to a SATA HDD, but when I performed a virus check on the SATA HDD – there were 4 trojan horses hidding in the recover registries.
I then had to wipe & reload 5 times on my original HDD just to be sure.

The above is not a joke.

Its ironic that we take Internet/PC for granted and at the same time the PC is constantly unprotected from hackers.
I know there are hackers out there waiting for me to go back online because someone go hold of my IP address & got a snapshot of my desktop & know which websites I normally go to.

I downloaded and read some of the PDF files, but I wanted to know which best recommended & tested virus scanner, Internet security & firewall software & wireless router to install & use
I request those above are user-friendly & for rookies.

Also I wanted to know how to protect my NIC from burning out – I had to purchase and install 6 NICs, but my ADSL modem is fine & still works. My onboard NIC burned out.

I also request to know how to hide my IP address when surfing anywhere on the Web including downloading/uploading/shopping.
which IP type is best recommend – static or dynamic? If static IP is recommended, then how do I get it & how to protect it without revealing it to the hackers?

    One more thing,
is there anyone out there on this forum that can help me get a job?
I am currently looking for the right contacts & correct clubs/associations to join & discuss & hopefully get a job with lots of hands on work experience.

My last and only job I had was working for 3 mo under contract performing data migration for a banking firm, but I received W2.

Help me Neo, you’re my only hope…

NSA007, sorry to hear about your woes. A few things stand out here though that you should know about.
    1. You may still be able to recover your bricked wireless router. Download the firmware from your manufacturer’s website. Using Google, look up how to recover a bricked router using tftp. It works…I revived my Linksys WRT54G a few years ago using this method.

    2. Once you revive your router, re-flash it with a 3rd party firmware and never keep any of the default settings. I recommend DD-WRT or Tomato. If you decide to use encryption, do not use WEP! It can be easily cracked by a wardriver or neighbor (in under 1 minute if they’re good). I would recommend employing WPA2, MAC filtering, and firewall options or iptables (DD-WRT runs on a Linux OS and advanced settings can be configured from the shell – SSH or Telnet).

    3. No single AV program will provide all of the protection you need. I also recommend using Malwarebytes and Spybot Search and Destroy. If you are already infected download Combofix. This program will detect and clean rootkits which can often employ trojan and worms.

    4. I would also ensure you disable Windows System Restore. Once you are infected, malicious programs can be stored in a restore point. and resurrect at any time.

    5. Sorry, but I don’t know of any job opportunities. I hold an AAS in Network and Security Mgmt, a BS in Computer Science, Net+, and Security+, and still can’t break into the security field. Now I’m working towards an MS in Info Sec & Assurance and hoping that’ll help open the door.
